At Abbeywood Tots, we choose our people for their ability to provide the optimum care and dedication to your child to the exact standard you would expect as a parent.
High quality staff gives your child gives your child a higher standard of education !
We employ a qualified teacher in each nursery facility. We also have a senior teacher to oversee the education and to run a weekly all inclusive training programme for all nursery staff.
All staff are CRB checked upon joining the Company.
(CRB = Criminal Records Bureau).
Our people receive a comprehensive induction programme of training as they start their career with us. Their induction covers subjects such as Paediatric First Aid, Basic Food Hygiene and the extensive room practices to familiarise themselves with our standards and procedures.
Abbeywood Tots offers a wide range of training courses within the Industry and are registered with the LSC covering NVQ and Advanced Modern apprenticeships, plus many more schemes to ensure that we meet their career development expectations.
Staff ratios are:
- 1:3 for 0-2 year olds
- 1:4 for 2-3 year olds
- 1:8 for 3-5 year olds
Staff Training and development
Training is important to us at Abbeywood Tots. We firmly believe our staff should have the opportunity to improve their qualifications and knowledge whilst employed.
Abbeywood Tots offers a variety of training courses to suit everyone's individual needs, taking in to account previous knowledge and experience.
Abbeywood Tots has a qualified and dedicated Training Team, who will arrange training sessions to either take place in the Nursery or at local colleges.
We offer the widest range of training courses available within the childcare industry, which includes NVQ's and Modern Apprenticeship Schemes.
Modern Apprenticeships (MA's) are high quality training and development schemes. MA's are offered to all Abbeywood Tots employees aged 17 - 24.
MA's are an ideal start for anyone who wishes to pursue a career childcare. They offer employment and a salary combined with the opportunity to gain the qualifications and skills that are needed to work within the childcare sector.
MA's are a recognised qualification to all employers throughout the UK .
By completing a MA, you will work towards NVQ Level III in Early Years Care and Education, as well as completing Key Skills in Communication and Application of Numbers and TEC Certificate.
The Advantaged level should take about 2 years to complete, depending on your individual pace of work and learning.
What are Key Skills?
Key Skills are what we all use on a day-to-day basis, no matter what industry we work in. They represent the ability to manipulate language, words and numbers and to work constructively with other people.
All staff will be offered the chance to complete an NVQ Programme whilst working for Abbeywood Tots. This will not only improve your skills, knowledge and qualifications but will give you the opportunity to gain promotion and development.
National Vocational Qualifications (NVQ's)
The NVQ in Early Years is offered to all staff.
The NVQ scheme allows you to achieve a qualification whilst working and gaining valuable experience. To gain an NVQ you need to be able to prove your competence whilst caring for children in our Nurseries. You will be assessed on your practical skills as well as your knowledge and understanding of the tasks being carried out.

For Nursery Assistants with previous experience - NVQ Level IV - Early Years Care and Education
For Nursery Managers - Assessor Awards
For qualified staff who wish to assess NVQ's - Internal Verifiers Award
For experienced Assessors who wish to verify assessments - Supervisory Management
